The latest episode of “Viewpoint” is now airing on Batavia Access Television and highlights the 50th anniversary of Fermilab, the particle physics and accelerator laboratory in Batavia.

As the host of “Viewpoint,” I was excited to sit down with Katie Yurkewicz, communication director at Fermilab, and Steve Brice, a scientist and neutrino division head at Fermilab, to discuss the milestone anniversary.

During the show, we talk about how Fermilab got started, what the facility looked like 50 years ago, some of the larger achievements there and how it’s recognizing its 50th anniversary.

One big event that Fermilab will host to celebrate 50 years is its free Community Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 23.

“This will be a rare opportunity to see the laboratory up close and tour areas not typically open to the public,” the Fermilab website states. “Everyone is welcome to join us in celebrating 50 years of science.”

Fermilab is located near Kirk Road and Pine Street. A valid photo ID is required to enter the site.
