[Cellphone antennas mar the appearance of the Campana building tower. Evergreen Real Estate Group proposes to relocate the antennas to the top of the tower, and screen them from view with an 8-foot-tall fiberglass sheath designed to mimic the appearance of the building's masonry.]
At a previous meeting, Block agreed to include the sidewalk, provided the Illinois State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service give their OK, and the planners approved that caveat.
But in making their final approval, planners felt strongly enough about the sidewalk to recommend to the City Council that the sidewalk must be included.
The proposal next will go to the Batavia City Council Committee of the Whole on Sept. 19.
Meanwhile, the Batavia Historic Preservation Commission will continue its deliberations on the project Sept. 11, and decide whether or not to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for Evergreen’s proposed renovations and alterations to the building facade.
