Since Valentine’s Day falls in February, the month seems to be associated with love, red, pink and hearts. Even the American Heart Association has named February as American Heart Month. In that spirit, the Chamber expresses our gratitude and love to our volunteers. Geneva runs on helping hands and leadership from local businesses, area residents, families and students. None receive pay, nor could we ever give them enough kudos for their unselfish work.
The Chamber depends on hundreds of volunteers for its four festivals. Events to assist the business community also are managed by volunteers – the Membership Committee, Co-Op Committee, Ambassadors, Golf Committee, Leads Group, Rising Professionals Network and the Classic Car Show. Geneva Women in Business is a volunteer board made up entirely of local businesses.
And let’s not forget city of Geneva volunteer groups. Some examples of their work include beautiful flowers in the knuckles and quality cultural events. All are successful because people get involved in community projects and issues.

February kicks off a few Chamber events that you can start registering for.
April 27 and 28 bring back the ABC City-Wide Geneva Garage Sale. You can pick up a form at our office or download one at our website. Online registration soon will be open. Look for the link on the genevachamber.com homepage. Checks, cash and credit cards can be processed at our office. Online registration will only accept credit cards. In addition, a portion of your registration fee assists in the costs of the Swedish Days Grand Parade. To ensure your items and address are listed on both the printed and online map, register by April 17. Your trash is somebody’s treasure.
Swedish Days is celebrating 69 years in 2018, and we are encouraging all to join in the community parade on June 24. No fee; businesses, groups and everyone is welcome. Just download the parade application from genevachamber.com/swedish_days.php. Let’s show the more than 45,000 people who start staking out a spot in the wee hours that Swedish Days is still super fine at 69! All the details are on genevachamber.com/swedish_days.php.
The Swedish Days 5K Lopp is returning for its third year. A great run and an even better way to begin the Saturday of Swedish Days. Registration will be open shortly. Find the information on our website.
Also during Swedish Days is the Granquist Music Festival. This is the 48th year for the prestigious competition where musicians from all over compete. Again, our website is the place to find rules and registration.
Keep your chin up, Geneva! Soon old man winter will be on his merry way.
