[The existing go-kart course at Funway in Batavia will focus on younger drivers once a new, state-of-the-art, go-kart attraction is constructed on neighboring property to the south, just one of the additions planned for next spring at the state's largest family entertainment center.]
The Batavia Plan Commission reviewed the expansion proposal recently, with commission members voting to approve the plan, including the rezoning of the former Producers Chemical property from an industrial classification to a commercial-entertainment use.
“This is a perfect addition to Batavia’s southern gateway,” planner Sue Peterson said.
Total vehicle parking for Funway will be increased by 28 spaces to 239, with the parking lot in front of the existing building extended south in front of the new go-kart track. On the north side of the track will be a pavilion to shelter drivers as they line up for a spin around the course.
When complete, the expanded Funway will cover a site of more than seven acres.
