Letter: St. Charles Police, Fire to the rescue

To the editor:

My compliments to the members of the St. Charles Fire and Police departments. I was motoring through St. Charles from out of town and noted an infant squirrel in the park by Routes 25 [and] 64. It appeared starved, homeless, helpless and motherless. It struggled many times to get on its feet, but always fell over. It was a tragic and pitiful sight to behold.

I contacted a fire department officer and asked to please inform the city animal welfare office. The officer contacted the police department. A police officer responded in person within 10 minutes as I waited outside a restaurant. I explained the situation and the officer proceeded to the rescue of the little animal. As the officer left, I said to him, “Sir, you are a good person.”

This was my first trip through St. Charles. Hats off to the public servants in this community. They are kind and decent people.
