Batavia police seek suspects in armed robbery attempt at Steak ‘n Shake

Early morning incident involved 2 suspects, one armed with shotgun

BATAVIA – Employees at Steak ‘n Shake, 1901 McKee St., Batavia reported an attempted armed robbery with a shotgun at 3:32 a.m. Jan. 27, Batavia police announced in a news release.

The employees working at that time told police that a man wearing a face mask and armed with a shotgun entered the business while they were working near the front of the restaurant, the release stated.

Upon seeing the suspect, both employees ran to the rear of the restaurant, one locking himself in a cooler, while the other fled the restaurant out of a rear door, the release stated.

After further investigation, it was determined that a second suspect entered the restaurant shortly after the first, the release stated.

The suspects walked through the business briefly before exiting out of the front door and leaving the scene in a silver four door sedan in an unknown direction, the release stated.

Responding officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects.

The first suspect was described as a man wearing blue jeans and a navy jacket or hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, gray shoes and dark gloves.

The suspect’s face was covered by unknown means and he was carrying a suspected shotgun which was silver.

The second suspect was described as a man wearing dark pants and a black hooded sweatshirt with orange lettering.

No injuries were reported, and police do not believe at this time that anything was taken.

The investigation is ongoing and there are no criminal charges at this time.
