NORTH AURORA – State police followed suspects in a Dixon armed robbery from a cell phone store to the ramp at Randall and Orchard Roads in North Aurora where the suspects' vehicle crashed Monday evening, police said.
District 15 State Police Master Sgt. Kevin McGrenera said the robbery occurred about 6 p.m. from a U.S. Cellular store in Dixon where the suspects stole cell phones.
“They fled from the scene. Troopers on I-88 tracked them and located them on I-88,” McGrenera said. “They went to conduct a traffic stop on Orchard Road, but they did not stop. They continued north on Orchard Road and they were trying to make a stop when they crashed at White Oak Lane and Orchard Road in North Aurora.”
Two were arrested immediately and two were tracked down and arrested, McGrenera said.
“There was no high speed chase,” McGrenera said. “They did not even make the traffic stop until they hit the ramp.”
The suspects crashed into a vehicle and a state police car was involved in a crash after that, McGrenera said, but no further details were available late Monday.
