Blackberry Township resident Ellen Jo Ljung, 71, was at the Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles when she answered questions from the Kane County Chronicle’s Brenda Schory.
Schory: Where did you grow up?
Ljung: New York
Schory: Do you have any pets?
Ljung: Two feral rescues, Phoebe and Baxter
Schory: Who would play you in the movie of your life?
Ljung: Katharine Hepburn
Schory: Why are you here?
Ljung: I’m working on a wearable art shirt to be donated as a raffle prize for the Fine Line Arts Festival on June 1.
Schory: First job?
Ljung: Tutoring math as a high school student
Schory: As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Ljung: I wanted to be a math teacher. Then I saw Katharine Hepburn as Portia in “The Merchant of Venice” and it was beautiful and so compelling, I became an English teacher.
Schory: Book or movie you would recommend?
Ljung: “Circe,” a modern retelling of the Greek myth by Madeline Miller and “The Library Book” by Susan Orlean
Schory: Favorite charity?
Ljung: Fine Line Creative Arts Center.
Schory: Favorite local restaurant?
Ljung: Craft Urban in Geneva
Schory: What is an interesting fact about yourself?
Ljung: We have traveled the world on kayak – Vietnam, Africa, Europe, Belize, Cuba – and now we’re going to the Amazon.
