Kenneth Lutz, 57, of Midway, Ohio is facing attempted first-degree murder charges and several gun-related charges after a shooting June 8 at a Hampshire truck stop.

An Ohio man is charged with attempted murder and several gun offenses for shooting another trucker on June 8 at a truck stop in Hampshire.

Just before 5 p.m. on June 8, Kenneth Lutz, 57, of Midway, Ohio, got into an argument with another trucker at a truck stop off I-90 on Route 20 in Hampshire because he believed the victim's truck was blocking the road.

Lutz allegedly went to his semi-truck to get a .45-caliber handgun, while the victim, a Pennsylvania man, went back to his cab. Lutz fired two shots into the driver's side door of the victim's cab, grazing the victim, causing him to bleed. The other bullet damaged the truck.

Lutz then left the scene in his semi-truck, parked on the side of the road at Route 47 and I-90 and consumed 30 pills in an apparent suicide attempt. Police found Lutz a short time later and took him into custody, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

Lutz's bail was set at $750,000 by Judge Keith Johnson June 11 after Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon charged him with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, armed violence, aggravatd discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and criminal damage to property, according to the news release.

Lutz's next court appearance is set for June 20.
