The public is invited to attend a candlelight vigil from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 29 at Simmons Park, 1201 E. Indian Trail Road, Aurora to remember those lost to drug addiction and substance abuse.
National Overdose Awareness Day is Aug. 31 and Breaking Free, a nonprofit agency aimed at helping individuals make positive decisions, and Chris Walk Against Substance Abuse, a nonprofit established to support addicted individuals and their families, are partnering to host the vigil to raise awareness about drug overdoses and reduce the stigma surrounding addicted individuals.
Scheduled speakers at the meeting include Aurora Deputy Mayor Chuck Nelson, Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain, Kane County Coroner Rob Russell, Clinical Director for Breaking Free Herb Stricklin and recovery remarks from two individuals.
Attendees are invited to bring photos of their loved one to share at the vigil.
