It's all in the family at Oswegoland Park District's Concert in the Park
As youth sports teams practiced nearby and children played on the playground, Geneva-based family band SM6 provided the music to entertain the crowd at the Community Park at Grande Park in Plainfield, on Thursday evening, Aug. 15.
The concert was the second of the Oswegoland Park District's summer Concert in the Park series.
"We know that it's a popular thing to do on a beautiful summer night, so we've really enjoyed doing our free concert series over the last few years," Park District Recreation Supervisor Cori Veverka said.
"Each year we kind of look at what need we have in the community...sometimes we do different things, we're always open to trying different things for some of these free events, and we love the concerts," she said.
Based in Geneva, the six-member band of siblings: Isabel, George, Adam, Emily, Eliana and Jack Jones performed a mixture of alternative, folk, indie, pop, rock covers and original songs, using percussion, bass, ukulele, guitar, and steel pan.
"We thought they'd be a great fit for our community," Veverka said. Park District officials first discovered SM6 when they performed at a showcase for another city's Park District.
"They're a family band, and being back-to-school week, we thought it was a good idea to kick off with some students themselves performing, and do that for our community," she added.
