[The new state-of-the-art 56,000 square-foot police station features an evidence room with bar-coding system.]
"We have a need for more digital forensics and that type of stuff now," Mahan said. "Every case pretty much involves some type of digital evidence now.
The new station also features a evidence processing area that is now separate from the booking area.
"One of the issues that we had in the old station was the evidence lockers were actually in our booking area," Mahan said. "So we had prisoners and evidence together, which is not necessarily your best design."
The new station also features an evidence garage for bigger items, such as cars.
"If we need to process a car that is involved in a crime, we can bring it in here," he said. "If we don't want to disturb the inside of it or it's difficult for the tow truck to get it in, we do have a winch on the wall so we can pull the car in."
