BATAVIA – The Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers restaurant in Batavia is nearly complete and readying itself for a Jan. 23 grand opening.

The restaurant, part of a nationwide Texas-based chain, is occupying a one-acre site at the southeast corner of Randall Road and McKee Street, the former location of the Avenue Motors automobile dealership.

With an address of 1998 McKee St., the 3,300-square-foot restaurant has two drive-thru lanes, 28 parking spaces and a small outdoor seating area.

It is estimated that 60% of the restaurant’s business will come from drive-thru customers.

The quick-serve eatery is expected to employ about 70 crew members and managers.

Raising Cane’s has more than 400 restaurants, and with a marketing tagline of “One Love,” has a menu tightly focused on its chicken fingers and dipping sauces, with just fries, Texas toast, coleslaw, tea and lemonade to round out the offerings.

The Batavia Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Jeff Schielke will inaugurate the new restaurant with a ribbon-cutting event on Jan. 23.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration for a drawing.

The grand opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting will get underway at 9 a.m. The restaurant will officially open for business at 10 a.m.

Regular business hours for the restaurant will be 10 a.m. to midnight.

The restaurant’s location will place it in direct competition with Chick-fil-A, which does a booming business immediately on the other side of Randall Road.

There are two vehicle access driveways for Raising Cane’s, both on McKee Street. One, closest to the Randall-McKee intersection, will be right-in only.

The other allows motorists to both enter and exit the site and lines up with the existing roadway heading north from McKee Street that serves the shopping center anchored by the Menards home improvement store.

The restaurant is occupying the most prominent portion of the old Avenue Motors property, but there are seven acres remaining for Kensington Development Partners of Oak Brook to attract additional businesses.

The development firm homes to bring in a major anchor tenant for the 5.2 acres to the south of the restaurant.

When that happens, the access roadway will connect the redevelopment site with the existing shopping center anchored by Ace Hardware and Apple Villa Famous Pancakes, creating a new link between McKee Street and West Wilson Street.

The land immediately to the east of Raising Cane’s along McKee Street is to be used for a storm water detention area to serve the Menards property, which is slated for a major expansion project next spring.
