With 2019 behind us, we are excited for a groundbreaking 2020. For months, we have talked about the St. Charles Public Library’s renovation plans and can report that our Ground Breaking Ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 5 at 2 p.m. at the library.
This will begin our construction project which is anticipated to last 12-14 months. While we are under construction, the library will be located temporarily in the former Haines Middle School at 305 S. Ninth Street. Beginning March 9, our current library location will be closed in order to move to the middle school. We will reopen in our temporary location in early April.
While we are closed for the move, you will be able to:
Use all of our online resources (eBooks, music, magazines, etc.) Place holds on materials and pick up holds at any library in the SWAN consortium Drop off books at any of our community book drops or neighboring libraries
While we are at our temporary location, we will continue to have the same business hours. In addition, the entire collection will be moving with us. Select items will be available for browsing, including new books and bestsellers, with a majority archived and retrievable by staff. Computer, print, scan and fax services will be accessible to patrons. Our quality adult, teen and youth programs will be offered offsite, thanks to our community partners.
Look for locations when viewing program descriptions in our Discover Your Library newsletter or at scpld.org under “Events.” Moreover, the Board of Trustees will conduct their monthly meetings at the temporary location on the second Wednesday of each month; the only exception being in March due to the move.
In lieu of a Spring Book Sale, the Friends of St. Charles Public Library will be hosting our Moving Sale from March 26-29. The Moving Sale will be in our current library building on Sixth Avenue and will have a variety of materials available. We will be selling tables, chairs, technology, office furnishings, file cabinets, book shelves and much more.
The sale will also include our old Outreach van. For more information about our Moving Sale and Ground Breaking Ceremony or for renderings of the renovation plans and library tour times, visit scpld.org.
Furthermore, should you have any questions, our main phone line and text services will be open throughout this process. Thank you so much for your support and patience while we move into our temporary home.
