ST. CHARLES – A book signing is planned for the new memoir titled “From the Fire into the Garden: A Healing Journey” by Deborah Marqui, a cancer survivor and owner of Healing Gardens in St. Charles.
Dawn Batina of St. Charles will host the meet-the-author event at 3 p.m. July 28 at Healing Gardens, describing the work as a “beautifully written memoir.”
On hand will be Marqui along with the book’s illustrator, Kathy McPartland, and the cover designer, Stacy Amoo-Mensah. Marqui will answer questions about the writing process and the story within a story, Batina said.
The informal, free event will begin from 3 to 4 p.m. with time to visit the garden, followed from 4 to 5 p.m. by a short talk and question-and-answer session.
Marqui will sign copies of the book, which will be available for $12 at the event. It is sold for $15 through Amazon.
Batina requests that people send her an RSVP to email@example.com or 630-975-9206. Some chairs will be provided, but people are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs.
Batina said she is impressed by the scope of the memoir.
“I put these cancer care packages together for people,” Batina said. “This [book] will be included [as a] companion for anybody who has cancer. [It has] so much available besides the gift of faith and her journey – an enormous wealth of information.”
An August profile of Marqui will appear in Kane Weekend.
The Healing Gardens at Stone Hill Farm comprises two acres of perennial gardens in a wooded setting at 37W249 Dean St.
