The Venue, the Fox River Valley's new 200-seat music performance space, presents a February lineup with a wide range of musical styles featuring young rockers, powerful vocals, soulful songs, rock and reggae tributes and best-of-the-best folk and Chicago blues.
Tickets range from $5 to $30 and are available at themusicvenue.org. Located at 21 S. Broadway Ave. (Route 25) in downtown Aurora, The Venue was created by the Fox Valley Music Foundation, a news release stated. On the foundation board is Steve Warrenfeltz of Kiss The Sky in Batavia.
Tributes this month will include a salute to Bob Marley with reggae group Dabylon at 8 p.m. Feb. 8. Tickets cost $8 to $12.
The Rolling Stones’ "Sticky Fingers" will be performed by Scott Tipping and friends for the Album Cover Series at 7 p.m. Feb. 9, with tickets costing $15 to $20.
Acoustic Bluegrass Invite Night at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 will showcase special guests Rob Anderlik and Mike Church. Tickets cost $5.
The Songwriters Showcase series at 7 p.m. Feb. 13 will lead up to the valentine’s show, featuring songs of love and heartbreak with host Dave Glynn and songwriters Pete Jive, Nicole Amine and Paul Moody. Tickets cost $10.
"An Evening of Heart and Soul" for Valentine’s Day will pay tribute to Memphis soul with The Heavy Sounds at 8 p.m. Feb. 14 Dinner packages from Moro Asian Kitchen are available. Concert tickets cost $20 to $30.
Rounding out the month of homage to musical greats will be Deacon Blues, the all-star tribute to Steely Dan, at 8 p.m. Feb. 15. Tickets cost $25 to $30.
Virtuoso guitarist Richard Smith will be in concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 16, with special guest Pat Bergeson. Tickets cost $15 to $20.
The Flat Five supergroup will blend their platinum voices at 8 p.m. Feb. 21. Kelly Hogan, Nora O’Connor, Scott Ligon, Casey McDonough and Alex Hall individually spend much of their time touring and recording with bands such as Neko Case, NRBQ, The Decemberists, Mavis Staples and Jakob Dylan. Tickets cost $20 to $25.
Back-to-back Blues Saturdays start with Guy King at 8 p.m. Feb. 22. Tickets cost $20 to $25. Guitar slinger Joanna Connor will be shredding the following week at 8 p.m. Feb. 29. Tickets cost $17 to $22.
Veteran folk music artist Lee Murdock will bring his Lake Michigan songs and stories to the Venue at 2 p.m. Feb. 23. Tickets cost $10 to $15.
To honor Black History Month, a lecture on "African American Musical Brilliance in Film" will be presented at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 by Gerald Butters of Aurora University. The program describes the far-reaching influence and musical excellence of African American artists in the American film industry.
At 8 p.m. Feb. 28, The Venue highlights indie hard rockers 4th Point, a group that grew out of the members' Christian ministry. Tickets cost $10 to $15 per show.
