When I was 7 or 8, my mom invented Wacky Wednesday. Each Wednesday that summer, we reached into a jar and randomly selected a slip of paper listing an activity written. We dropped my baby brother off with a family friend, and my brother and I got special mom time for an hour or two. Some were quick (trying a new food), others more elaborate (going to the zoo). This week, I had my own version of Wacky Wednesday: a lunch out at Deane’s Market & Deli in Geneva. With no kids to drop off and no real summer break to speak of, it was a toned-down version of our invented tradition, but a treat nonetheless.
